Women Building Tanzania is a dynamic initiative that initially emerged through a collaboration between Michigan State University and the University of Dar es Salaam. Their primary objective is to empower young women by enhancing their educational opportunities, overall health, and well-being during their primary and secondary education journey. On May 30, 2022, the dedicated team revisited Kiparang'anda Primary School in the Mkuranga region of Tanzania to engage with the school community, assess the students' overall well-being, and ignite the spark of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) interest among young girls. They facilitated an engaging GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping workshop, aiming not only to inspire but also to impart valuable knowledge about understanding their community. During the workshop, the students were provided with maps of Tanzania and guided on how to identify familiar locations. Subsequently, they received a crash course in compass usage, ventured onto their school campus, and independently crafted a map of their school environment.
